Posting Scores & World Handicap System
The AWGA licenses the SBRWGA to issue certified USGA handicap indexes to our members. There are numerous requirements that must be met in order to maintain our status as a "certified club". One of those requirements states that the golf club must "require the posting of all scores made at home and away". Another requirement indicates that a "player's Handicap Index must be adjusted up or down (by Handicap Committee) if the player does not turn in all acceptable scores or otherwise does not observe the spirit of the USGA Handicap System.
The need for SBRWGA to monitor and to implement penalties when warranted is dictated by the AWGA in accordance with the USGA. Therefore, the SBRWGA Handicap Committee will perform random reviews as part of this monitoring process. If our Association was audited by the USGA and found NOT to have procedures in place to do these things, the SBRWGA could lose its license to issue USGA handicaps to our members. The AWGA office in Phoenix advises us that the USGA regularly audits 6-10 clubs in the state of Arizona per year.
POST THESE SCORES
Post all scores whenever you play, Home and Away. Remember on the SBRWGA league day, the league day committee will post your score.
DO NOT POST THESE SCORES
When you play in a competition limiting the number of types of clubs used, such as a three-club tournament, or when a majority of the holes are not played under the Rules of Golf--such as a Scramble or Scotch.
MAXIMUM SCORES
In an effort to help improve the speed of play, the SBRWGA has adopted a maximum hole score of 10 for everyone on our regular league days. Here is some clarification about this policy:
You may pick up and take a 10 on a hole and still remain in the weekly game. For example, if your 9th stroke is NOT in the hole, pick up and record a 10. Alternatively, if you don't think you'll get in the hole in 9 strokes, you may pick up at any time and take a 10. This "penalizes" the player who picks up by 1 stroke over anyone who finishes the hole. Any player who doesn't complete a hole is not disqualified but simply gets the maximum score for the hole.
And as a friendly reminder...This does not apply in the major tournaments (President’s Cup, Club Championship). The rules for those tournaments will clearly state that the maximum hole score rule does not apply. If you pick up, you will be disqualified in these tournaments.
NEW World Handicap System Maximum Hole Score
Under WHS, your max score is dependent on the par rating of the hole AND any handicap strokes you may get on it. In other words, your course handicap must be known in order to know the strokes for a given hole.
The max score will be limited to a Net Double Bogey calculated as (Par + 2 + strokes).
